Prometheus
Promethean Man in Perpetual
Suffering
Prometheus, taking pity of the mortal creatures, who suffered from hunger and cold, stole fire from Heaven and gave it to mankind, so that the mortals could make fire and build instruments with which they could bring the harsh nature under their control. For being so benevolent to the mortals, the gods chained Prometheus on the peak of a mountain where he was pined with bitter cold at night and scorching heat of the sun during the day. Every morning, with the day break, an eagle came to devour his lever. It left after tormenting him in pain for the whole day. After the eagle departed his lever grew whole to be devoured by the eagle next morning once again. Thus Prometheus was thrown into a perpetual torment that continues even today. In mythology eagle represents the sun. With the sunrise mankind are thrown into the battle of survival, that consumes the energy that the levers generate. When man rests at night the lever is replenished with energy once again that goes for the battle for the next day. The punishment of Prometheus is the curse of the gods that has passed onto the creatures, whom Prometheus created from clay.
